What does it mean to be a fine wine? What does low intervention really look like? What does sustainability mean in the context of the wine industry? And - who gets to decide?
Come with us on a thought experiment. What if we crafted a wine around a native American variety - one that thrives without spraying - and paired it with a supporting cast of grapes that embrace Virginia’s climate? Varieties that ask little, give plenty, and invite us to rethink our relationship with the land.
We brought these grapes into the cellar and let them find their own way - minimal intervention, no heavy-handed winemaking, just gentle guidance. We didn’t push it to be something familiar. Instead, we stepped back, cleared our minds of what a "fine wine" is supposed to taste like - no checklist of flavors, no textbook texture.
We invite you to do the same. Close your eyes. Take a sip. And ask yourself: does this hit?
Vineyard Sourcing: The grapes were sourced from all across Virginia, the Muscadine leading the charge is from Pittsylvania County, the Petit Manseng from around Batesville, the Chardonel and Fer Servadou from Loudon County.
How We Made It: A mixture of direct press juice and crushed Muscadine berries were spontaneously co-fermented in a big red bin. Then we threw those suckers in the press just before dryness, then into a stainless tank where it finished fermenting and chilled out for a few months before being bottled unfiltered in April 2025.
