It’s been a long two years and change, but one of our favorite Southern Hemisphere IPAs has returned. And has it been working out or something? Because Checkers & Chess is looking and tasting better than ever.
The grist remains the same: a pilsen base made softer and silkier with oat malt, flaked wheat, and flaked rye. Secret Citra still provides the whirlpool additions. As always, half of the dry-hop is Galaxy, that big tropical Australian bully. But the other half? Welcome to the party New Zealand Cascade — a familiar varietal that emerges from the Nelson Tasman soil with delightful passion fruit and lemon characteristics.
Explosions of guava. Citrus. Lychee. Peach. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
